Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required
- Five (5) years’ HVAC experience, with substantial experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or industrial environments
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
- Valid driver's license required
- Strong hands-on expertise with precision cooling systems and large-scale mechanical infrastructure
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex HVAC systems under time-sensitive, high-risk conditions
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, control diagrams, and sequences of operation
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, documentation discipline, and operational excellence
Job Conditions
- Ability to work around rotating equipment, elevated noise levels, and temperature-controlled environments
- Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces as required
- Willingness to participate in rotational on-call schedules and respond to after-hours emergencies
- Non-covered safety sensitive position; ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Knowledge of redundancy models (N, N+1, 2N) for mechanical systems, preferred
Position Overview
Performs repair and maintenance tasks for FedEx Freight facilities and facilities related equipment; to maintain all heating and air conditioning to national, state or local codes.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on data center mechanical and HVAC systems
- Monitor and maintain environmental conditions critical to data center performance, including temperature, humidity, airflow, and pressure differentials
- Diagnose and resolve HVAC and mechanical failures with urgency and precision to prevent IT impact or equipment degradation
- Support 24x7 data center operations, including emergency response, after-hours call-out, and participation in on-call rotations
- Conduct regular mechanical space and data hall walkthroughs to identify potential issues, leaks, abnormal noise, vibration, airflow concerns, or control anomalies
- Work closely with Sr Electricians, Electrical Engineers, Facilities Managers, and Data Center Operations teams to ensure tight coordination between mechanical and electrical systems in a high-availability environment
- Serve as an escalation point for complex HVAC and mechanical issues impacting data center environments
- Oversee and coordinate vendor and contractor HVAC work to ensure compliance with site standards, safety rules, and operational requirements
- Monitor and respond to alarms and trends through Building Management Systems (BMS) and related monitoring platforms
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and corrective actions using enterprise work order systems such as Maximo or equivalent
- Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Unlimited Refrigeration license or HVAC/Mechanical Contractor license, plus the EPA & First Class Steam Licenses
