About the role
This role is responsible for the review and oversight of fuel and other related tax returns, general ledger reconciliations, audits, business support, and research.
Responsibilities
- Supervise fuel tax staff responsible for the timely completion, filing, payment, and reconciliation of fuel and other related tax returns, including review of tax returns and associated general ledger reconciliations.
- Support, prepare, and/or review fuel and other excise tax related internal control (SOX) compliance and financial reporting deliverables including month-end close and other required reporting, including documentation and evaluation of fuel tax related processes and systems to enhance internal control structure and mitigate tax related risks.
- Lead fuel tax business support function; research and resolve inquiries from operations and accounting personnel, including frequent communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with implementation of process improvement initiatives and performance management programs as directed by department management consistent with department, finance team, and Company-wide goals and objectives.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (4-year)
- Years of relevant work experience: 6+ years
Specific Knowledge and Skills
- Motor fuel tax, fuel accounting, data analytics (Alteryx, Power BI preferred), Avalara Excise experience preferred
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a desire to execute
- Ability to leverage cost-effective technology to implement process improvement initiatives
- Effective communicator; ability to work with internal customers and outside taxing authorities
- Adaptable to growth/changing business environment
