Responsibilities
- Independently prepares, or reviews work of others, as applicable for all US consolidated corporate income tax returns (federal and state) and other related returns.
- Prepares and computes quarterly income tax estimates.
- Conducts tax research & planning assignments.
- Maintains general ledger balances of selected tax accounts, including performing related quarterly reconciliations.
- Works closely with accounting and other groups to obtain and validate information for income tax preparation.
- Reviews and analyzes tax books within the fixed asset system, including reconciliation of any GAAP books and tax books differences.
- Prepares domestic reporting for foreign entities.
- Optimizes state and federal business tax credits with limited guidance.
- Assists with due diligence on acquisitions.
- Assists in developing responses for requests related to all Federal and State audits as well as gathering necessary information.
- Maintains knowledge and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and their impact to the company.
- Assists with documentation and implementation of tax policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Master’s degree in taxation and CPA very desirable.
- Three to four years of experience in the tax area.
- Experience at a public accounting firm is preferred.
- Extensive and proven independent experience in federal consolidated returns (preparation and review).
- Multi-state tax background.
- Strong conceptual understanding of accounting and financial statements.
- Experience with accounting for income taxes is a plus.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and work-paper techniques.
- Congfident decision-maker and ability to produce accurate results with minimal supervision.
- Strong Excel and other computer skills.
- Ability to organize, download and upload large data files.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource software a plus.
- Experience with accounting for fixed assets and BNA Depreciation software a plus.
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports and legal documents.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
