What You'll Do
- Own all aspects of indirect tax compliance in the United States and Canada, including providing monthly raw data and assisting with notices for external tax return preparers
- Collaborate with sales tax advisory and tax technology teams to ensure data is clean, organized, and optimized for Tesla’s growing business
- Manage, reconcile, and own general ledger accounts related to sales and indirect taxes, and assist in presenting reconciliations to non-tax finance staff
- Oversee and complete tax exemption certificates and reconcile sales tax on vendor invoices
- Conduct research and provide support for additional functions within the sales tax team as needed
- Identify and drive implementation of automation and other process improvements to enhance scalability of the sales tax team
What You'll Bring
- 4+ years of indirect tax experience with an accounting firm or corporate tax/legal department, preferably with a Fortune 500 company
- Experience with U.S. and Canada taxation and proficiency in using VertexCPA, CMI, IPT Sales Tax School, or equivalent certification preferred
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills with an interest in process improvement, automation, and AI
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics to colleagues outside the tax team
- Self-starter who can organize, prioritize, and manage urgent and competing deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query, macros) skills a must. Preference for those with advanced large data wrangling skills using any of the following tools: Alteryx, Tableau, Knime, Power BI SQL, etc.
