This position provides operational support in the Emergency Operations Center and contributes to community preparedness, outreach, and resilience initiatives. The position applies emergency management principles across all phases of the emergency management cycle—including preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation—and supports the identification, assessment, and planning for natural and human-caused hazards that may impact the community. Essential Duties And Responsibilities The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive. Supports the development of strategic goals and plans that allow the City, and individual departments, to be prepared for the managing unified responses to emergencies, regardless of type and scope. Assists with the development of policies that guide Emergency Management practices in the City, ensuring that they not only serve preparedness and response goals, but enhance daily operations across the City. Assists with plan development and updates related to NIMS National Incident Management System compliance and training. Assists with achieving scheduled emergency management activities/functions. Assists with the development, coordination and/or delivery of training and exercises for the Fort Collins community, including public and private sectors. Assists in the maintenance, training and application of the emergency notifications systems within the community. Assists with the operation and maintenance of the Fort Collins Emergency Operation Center. Represents Fort Collins Office of Emergency Management at local, county, regional, state and federal activities. Conducts surveys to determine the types of emergency-related needs that will need to be addressed in disaster planning, or provide technical support to others conducting such surveys. Consults with officials of local and area governments, schools, hospitals, and other institutions in order to determine their needs and capabilities in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency. Develops and maintains liaisons with municipalities, county departments, and similar entities in order to facilitate plan development, response effort coordination, and exchanges of personnel and equipment. Stays informed of federal, state and local regulations affecting emergency plans, and ensure that plans adhere to these regulations. Attends meetings, conferences, training, and workshops related to emergency management to learn new information and to develop working relationships with other emergency management officials. This may require travel Assists with identification, application and management of grants that would benefit Emergency Preparedness and Safety. Assigned duties and responsibilities as needed to support all missions of the department including the areas of emergency preparedness, security, and special events. Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities Knowledge and understanding of disaster planning, emergency management or emergency preparedness principles, regulations, and guidelines. Demonstrated ability to develop and work with teams in cross-disciplinary settings. Ability to work independently Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and other software programs Required Qualifications Minimum Preferred College degree or equivalent work experience. Some positions may require functionally related certification or advanced degrees Bachelor\'s degree with emphasis in Public Safety or Emergency Management or equivalent work experience. Experience Requirements Six years of experience and/or education in Emergency Management, Public Safety, or Risk Management. Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training Valid Driver's License, Certificates in IS 100, 200, 700, 800 required., Certificates in ICS 300 and 400 preferred., FEMA Professional Development series certification preferred.
