The hiring range for this position is $69,389.00 - $104,083.00. This is an exempt position, with pay rates determined by education, skill, experience, and internal equity.
About the Role
The Mecklenburg County Assessor’s office is dedicated to providing fair appraisals of taxable property and ensuring funding for county services. As a valued member of the team, you will have the opportunity to impact the lives of countless citizens daily.
Responsibilities
- Appraise complex commercial properties
- Measure and list large commercial, multi-family, and complex residential properties
- Defend ad valorem values before the Board and some cases to the NC Property Tax Commission
- Establish property grades and characteristics for revaluation
- Assist with cost, market, and income studies for revaluation
- Assist in training and providing guidance to staff
- Understand, interpret, and apply appraisal rules and regulations
Requirements
- Four years of commercial or residential appraisal experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License
- Mecklenburg County Vehicle Operator’s Permit
- North Carolina Department of Revenue certification as a County Real Property Appraiser within one year of hire
Qualifications
- Mass appraisal experience preferred
- Certification with the North Carolina Department of Revenue as a County Real Property Appraiser within 1 year of hire (Passing scores on tests in two 30 hour courses in NC Property Tax Listing and IAAO Course 101)
- Certification must be maintained by taking 30 additional hours of coursework/training as required by the North Carolina Department of Revenue every two years

- Knowledge of real estate principles, practices, markets, and values
- Ability to analyze and interpret data such as cost of construction, market comparison, and income-producing potential
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Data analysis skills, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
