Brand: Walman Optical – Brooklyn Park, MN (55445). Full-time, 1st shift position in the Optical Coating department.

About the role

Responsible for all aspects of the Anti-Reflective (AR) Coating process to produce quality eyewear that meets customer standards. Primary responsibility is the daily operation and maintenance of large-capacity AR coating machines and final quality inspection of outgoing lenses. The Sr Production Technician adheres to the company’s quality and safety requirements during all operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate large-capacity AR coating machines.
  • Perform daily and weekly maintenance of vacuum coating chambers and AR coating equipment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all processes and maintenance.
  • Clean machines and prepare for operation.
  • Inspect lenses for accuracy and defects; log scratches or other conditions.
  • Place lenses into appropriate tooling based on diameter and shape.
  • Load lenses into AR coating machine and select correct recipe and chemicals.
  • Perform parts change-outs and maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Conduct quality testing on finished product.
  • Perform final inspection on batch-coated lenses to ensure cosmetic standards.
  • Verify coating runs meet desired specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machine/equipment problems and work with supervisor to resolve issues.
  • Pack completed work; review rejected lenses and re-work or assign breakage codes.
  • Sandblast machine parts as needed.
  • Follow standard procedures while evaluating opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide recommendations to simplify jobs, eliminate non-value-added tasks, and reduce costs.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement processes.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.
  • Comply with company, manufacturer, attendance, and safety policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and HIPAA-protected information.
  • Assist others to maintain workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Provide training, work direction, and technical guidance to less experienced employees.
  • Attend in-house or sponsored training meetings as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to multi-task, orient to detail, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and lift up to 15 pounds above head.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances/chemicals requiring safety training.

Pay

Starting at $20.75 per hour. Employee pay is determined by factors including geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements.
