Amazon Web Services is hiring a Sr. Product Design Engineer for the Electrical Products and Services engineering team. This electrical product focused team is a part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation for products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. The Electrical Product Engineering team at Amazon works to design and develop resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Data Center Design Engineering, Principal Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to design and develop innovative concepts into new products needed for power distribution for data center.
  • Lead new product design, development and work with internal teams to understand design requirements and solicit customer input.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical and structural engineering, reliability, QA/QC and compliance to create well thought out products.
  • Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements while delivering a return on investment.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment, devices and bill of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries.
  • Prepare, Review and approval of product design and drawings including electrical bill of materials, configuration, layouts, assembly, construction and electrical wiring drawings.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during manufacturing phases.
  • Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly set up test processes and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 8+ Years of experience of Electrical Product Design for Power Distribution Equipment or UPS; OR 8+ years of Data Center or Mission-Critical Design, Construction, or Operations

Preferred qualifications

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Skills & attributes

  • Hands-on experience in new product design and development of electrical power distribution equipment and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
  • Ability to design electrical power distribution products and equipment and help to successfully test the products per latest codes and standards using third party test laboratories
  • Capable of defining equipment specifications and evaluating the merit of design changes
  • Subject matter expertise in the product design field
  • Ability to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish required work
  • Ability to work with internal groups as well as external groups including engineering service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, third party testing labs and contractors
  • An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary

Pay & compensation

Base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.

Schedule & travel

Travel will be necessary but shouldn't be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Your contribution could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering information packages.
