Sr. Practice Assistant
About the role
The Sr. Practice Assistant – MGH Outpatient Surgical Center (Waltham) supports patients, providers, and surgical operations in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment. Key responsibilities include patient reception, administrative coordination, and operating room (OR) scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Performs administrative functions to support smooth and efficient clinical service and practice operations.
- Schedules, checks in, and checks out patients.
- Processes patient billing forms and scans documents to the patient medical record (EPIC).
- Acts as "Super User" for scheduling, registration, and billing systems.
- Provides assistance and training to others in these areas.
- Handles, screens, and/or takes messages related to prior authorizations, provider questions, prescription refills, and test results.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong technology and MS Office skills – Advanced Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of office operations and standards and understanding of office procedures including filing, copying, scanning, printing, and faxing.
- Ability to use phone system and manage non-routine phone calls and solve routine issues as appropriate.
- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience and talking to others to convey information effectively.
- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents, to correspond and communicate with others clearly and effectively (including composing/editing e-mail, memos and letters), and to take complete and accurate messages.
- Managing one's own time and the time of others. Well organized and good time management skills to manage multiple tasks effectively, follow established protocols, and work within systems.
- Ability to proofread and edit written documents.

Pay
Hourly rates starting at $22.00. Base pay information offered based on minimum job qualifications; additional elements contributing to total compensation package may include competitive base pay, comprehensive benefits, career advancement opportunities, differentials, premiums and bonuses as applicable, and recognition programs designed to celebrate your contributions and support your professional growth.
Schedule
Rotating schedule with team members alternating between 5:30 AM–2:00 PM and 7:30 AM–4:00 PM shifts, Monday through Friday.
