About the role

As a Senior Patient Service Representative, you will work in conjunction with physicians and clinical staff to take care of patients’ administrative needs.

Responsibilities

  • Check in patients for appointments and collect patient co-pays.
  • Answer telephones, take accurate messages, and schedule appointments.
  • Check insurance eligibility and utilize our electronic record system to verify and update patient demographic information.
  • Post and balance payments collected.
  • Provide excellent customer service, ensuring patients are informed and well cared for while waiting for their appointment.
  • Assist in mentoring Patient Service Representatives and support the Lead PSR with leadership duties.
  • Know, understand, incorporate, and demonstrate the organizational Mission, Core Values, and Vision in behaviors, practices, policies, and decisions.
  • Protect patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information and follow HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain operations by following policies and procedures and report needed changes.
  • Acknowledge and greet patients immediately, providing a positive customer service experience.
  • Register patients for appointments and complete paperwork.
  • Keep patient appointments on schedule by notifying the provider of patient’s arrival.
  • Collect, record, and communicate patient responsible balances for visits, diagnostic testing, supplies, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of different payer practices and deductibles.
  • Assist patients with all aspects of Financial Assistance paperwork.
  • Optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
  • Handle multiple telephone lines effectively and politely per clinic standards.
  • Update patient personal and insurance information, and notify patients to bring insurance cards, identification, and co-payment to appointments.
  • Process incoming and outgoing referral requests.
  • File incoming medical reports and correspondence.
  • Assemble new patient medical records in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Receive, process, and document referral requests to and from the office.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Electronic health record (EHR) experience required.
  • Medical terminology required.
  • Experience with process improvement or lean philosophy preferred.
  • Must be proficient in the requirements of the Patient Service Representative role.
