About the role
The Senior Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities and support of facilities, utilities, and equipment, including automation, and working in collaboration with Engineering on major plant projects. This position sets the overall goals, strategies, and objectives for the Maintenance departments and team, facilitating all current and future maintenance and automation activities to ensure uninterrupted operations while motivating and developing managers, support leaders, maintenance mechanics, and automation technicians.
The Senior Maintenance Manager ensures the safe maintenance, repair, or replacement of plant equipment and systems at the most economical cost or method, maximizing production quantity and quality while supporting the organization’s policies, goals, and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all maintenance functions within the manufacturing environment, including process and automation improvements.
- Drive projects with the support of Engineering.
- Initiate, implement, and manage the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
- Analyze processes and systems, recommend improvements, and implement changes to improve efficiency and performance.
- Troubleshoot problem areas, recommend solution options, and implement changes to improve performance.
- Manage, support, and mentor teams (maintenance, automation, projects, etc.) to effectively drive and document change.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Management team to provide support and mentor a team of building/facilities/utilities mechanics responsible for boilers, chillers, compressed air, steam, softeners, electrical, natural gas, etc.
- Collaborate with the Automation Management team to provide technical guidance, training, and direction for plant-based automation personnel.
- Support the Wastewater Treatment plant facility.
- Oversee Process Safety Management functions.
- Prepare technical specifications, project work descriptions, bid documents, and reports.
- Operate utilities systems at the most efficient manner through automation and equipment design.
- Direct and monitor the purchasing, use, and inventory of spare and critical parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment, adhering to Global Sourcing policies at the most cost-effective means and within budget.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of shop equipment.
- Establish and maintain a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
- Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related issues.
- Ensure maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated to accomplish the maintenance program safely, timely, and cost-effectively.
- Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department.
- Review plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, resolve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve energy efficiency of buildings, equipment, and operations, and implement solutions.
- Initiate and carry out projects to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Maintain adherence to safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures through communications, training, and coaching to ensure compliance with Safety standards and incident prevention.
- Focus on efficiency in electricity and natural gas use.
- Monitor and secure rebates.
- Coordinate activities with Plant Operations Departments.
- Collaborate with other Department Managers on problem-solving and resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required. Other engineering disciplines or education may be considered.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
- Minimum ten (10) years of facility/maintenance experience in a food production environment required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a managerial role required.
- Minimum five (5) years of food processing experience required.
- In-depth knowledge of dairy plant maintenance required.
- Strong experience with plant automation required.
Pay
Salary range: $124,200 - $155,300 (determined based on skills, education, training, and experience related to the position).
Schedule
Monday - Friday (flexible for business needs).
