Sr. Industrial Project Manager

As a Sr. Industrial Project Manager in Houston, Texas, you’ll lead challenging industrial projects, bringing together people, resources, and expertise to deliver outstanding results while strengthening client partnerships and fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

About the role

You will supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor the project team on one or multiple sites, depending on size and complexity. You’ll define scope of work, project drivers, progress, schedule, cost, execution sequence, and change management while refining and executing the overall project strategy. Collaboration with the construction superintendent and project team is key to identifying and addressing issues that impact project performance.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor the project team on one or multiple sites.
• Communicate with project teams to define scope of work, project drivers, progress, schedule, cost, execution sequence, and change management.
• Refine and execute the overall project strategy in collaboration with the construction superintendent and project team.
• Determine action issues impacting project performance and communicate them to all stakeholders.
• Ensure consistency and adherence to site and district policies, procedures, and standards.
• Oversee project budgets and schedules across various project types and commercial models.
• Implement and maintain project risk management procedures, including mentoring others on risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor project performance, including schedule, cost, equipment, workforce, materials, HSE, and quality control.
• Oversee the setup of project reporting procedures (e.g., labor, material, cost reports, site office procedures, and document control).
• Review, acknowledge, and make recommendations regarding performance status reports on safety, cost forecast, and schedule.
• Approve all change orders, including negotiating, processing, and assessing cost and schedule impact.
• Assist in securing new work by participating in estimates, working with subcontractors, and/or making proposals and presentations.

Requirements

• 15 years of Heavy Industrial project management experience with proven ability to lead large-scale, complex projects.
• Proven experience managing large-scale industrial projects with budgets of $150 million or more.
• Advanced knowledge of the construction industry, including construction specifications, building materials, methods, and procedures.
• Advanced understanding of contract language, commercial and schedule risk across all disciplines of a project.
• Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with clients, consultants, trades, and internal employees, and present at client meetings or for project pursuit work.
• Advanced verbal, written, interpersonal, and public communication skills, with comfort representing PCL externally at conferences or industry events.
• Advanced knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines across all industrial self-perform disciplines and subcontracts.
• Advanced knowledge of project management and estimating software programs, engineering, and construction management principles and practices.
• Ability to work required project hours in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive ability to identify, mitigate, and manage risk on large-scale and complex construction projects, including mentoring others.
• Advanced problem-solving skills related to construction, sequencing, and staffing.
• Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills to establish priorities and schedule work tasks for on-time completion, including mentoring others.
• Proven track record managing trade partners’ performance, aligning cost control, scheduling, planning, quality, and HSE deliverables with PCL’s and the prime contract’s expectations.
• Advanced contractual knowledge and ability to lead contract management for multiple delivery models, including negotiation, dispute resolution, and administration/execution on a project.
