Sr. Individual Disability Claims Specialist
About the role
The IDI Senior Claims Specialist evaluates individual disability income insurance claims, makes timely and accurate claim decisions, and delivers clear, customer-focused support. This role plays a vital part in strengthening how we care and advocate for millions worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and make decisions for moderately complex individual disability income claims, including pending, ongoing, and appeal reviews.
- Create clear, detailed, professional claim documentation, correspondence, and written communications.
- Analyze medical, occupational, financial, policy, and claim-related information to support logical and defensible claim determinations.
- Communicate with claimants, customers, representatives, healthcare providers, attorneys, brokers, and family members with empathy, active listening, and clear explanations.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners, including physicians, vocational consultants, CPAs, underwriting, Fraud Waste & Abuse, litigation support, and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- 3+ years of IDI or LTD insurance claims experience, applying policy provisions, claim practices, and independent judgment.
- Proficiency using multiple systems, technologies, and information sources to review claim information, document actions, and manage case activity.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, empathy, and sound judgment when working with claimants, customers, representatives, internal partners, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Familiarity with FINEOS, including navigation, case management, and claims processing functions.
Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
