Sr HW Dev Engineer - Payload, Amazon Leo Hardware Development
About the role
As a Senior Hardware Engineer on the Amazon Leo team, you will work on innovative phased-array designs for Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. This role involves conceiving, designing, and optimizing electronics sub-systems to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, third-party suppliers, and downstream partners such as operations, supply chain, product management, and reliability to drive product definition, implementation, and test. You will own your designs from concept through production, making high-value judgments to balance tactical and strategic decisions while maintaining system performance and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Own PCBA development from concept through production
- Design and optimize electronics sub-systems, including high-speed digital and/or RF circuitry
- Lead and review schematic capture and PCB layout
- Engage with PCB vendors for DFM (Design for Manufacturing) review
- Optimize PCB stack-up for performance and cost
- Generate test plans and procedures based on high-level requirement definitions
- Complete board bring-up and perform test campaigns for modules and sub-systems
- Design automated test systems, test fixtures, and factory test solutions
- Support the transition of designs to production
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (Green Card holder) due to export control laws and regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- 7+ years of industrial experience in board-level analog/digital design
- 1+ years of experience in high-speed digital design, multi-gigabit SERDES, signal and power integrity
- 3+ years of experience using schematic capture tools
- 2+ years of experience using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multi-meters, etc.)
- Experience with Mentor Graphics or Cadence layout tools
- Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Project management experience for technical projects
- Master's or PhD in electrical engineering or computer engineering
- Familiarity with analog electronic fundamentals (transistor circuits, op-amps, filters, etc.)
- Experience in design, implementation, bring-up, and debugging of proof-of-concept hardware and prototypes
- Familiarity with power supply design
- Previous work experience in a programming language
- Proficiency in developing programs for instrument control
Pay
Base salary range: $159,200 - $215,300 USD annually (Redmond, WA). Final compensation will include sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and other factors such as experience, qualifications, and location.
