HW Dev Engineer - Payload, Hardware Development, Amazon LEO
About the role
As a Hardware Engineer on the Amazon LEO team, you will be part of a group of experts developing advanced satellite systems that provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. You will own or contribute to the design and optimization of circuitry for satellite systems, create proof-of-concept prototypes for next-generation satellite hardware, and collaborate closely with radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, and software teams.
You will also design automated test systems, test fixtures, and factory tests, lead bring-up and qualification test campaigns for satellite hardware, and review PCB layouts. This role offers exposure to the complete design lifecycle, from concept through production.
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize circuitry for satellite systems
- Develop proof-of-concept prototypes for next-generation satellite hardware
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, software)
- Design automated test systems, test fixtures, and factory tests
- Lead and execute bring-up and qualification test campaigns for satellite hardware
- Review and contribute to PCB layout
Requirements
- 2+ years of hardware design and validation experience for components, subsystems, and systems
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in electrical engineering or computer engineering, or equivalent experience
- 1+ years of experience using schematic capture tools
- 1+ years of experience with Mentor Graphics or Cadence layout tools
- 1+ years of experience using lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters

Pay
Base salary range: $96,600.00 – $160,000.00 USD annually (USA, WA, Redmond). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
