About the role
This is a professional opportunity for a business-minded, hands-on HR professional who has demonstrated the ability to execute projects, make an impact, and act as a true change agent. Under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources, the Sr. HR Generalist will lead and execute talent acquisition, employee relations, coaching, and counseling to maximize associate contributions. This role will work within a small team and lead or co-lead projects such as supervisor skills training, manpower analysis, employment, recognition, and employee investigations. Based in Harvey, IL, this individual will provide HR support for Safety and Infrastructure, with an initial focus on Harvey (IL) Operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the talent acquisition process for salaried and hourly associates, including recruiting, screening, interviewing applicants, creating and updating job descriptions, and training hiring managers on Atkore's Recruitment and Selection process.
- Implement proactive approaches to employee hiring, selection, and compensation in support of strategic objectives.
- Manage manpower planning and job movement activities, including processing employee data changes and interfacing with payroll on employment-related actions.
- Use evidence and data to identify people priorities and address future workforce needs.
- Steward and drive business and employee engagement, focusing on creating a positive associate relations environment and culture.
- Investigate and help resolve Employee Relations issues and complaints, including Compliance Hotline investigations.
- Support labor relations and the grievance process.
- Partner with HR and leadership teams to drive talent management and performance management, including succession planning, training, development, and performance review completion.
- Align and contribute to the company’s Lean methodologies, participate in business or HR GEMBA walks, and contribute to board metrics.
- Serve as a business partner, focusing on brokering HR solutions.
- Collaborate with other HR functional areas to deliver quality support to client groups.
- Travel intermittently to alternate locations to provide HR support.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
- 5+ years of Human Resources experience.
- Excellent computer skills with the ability to analyze information and create reports.
- Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
- Experience working in a matrix environment (preferred but not required).
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility to come in early or occasionally work off-shift hours to support 2nd and 3rd shifts as needed.
Milestones
Within 3 months, you’ll:
- Complete your Atkore immersion program.
- Understand how your role contributes to Atkore’s strategy.
- Gain an understanding of your role, the HR organization, and the organization you support.
- Become familiar with training materials and procedures your team owns.
- Learn HR standard work practices and expectations.
Within 6 months, you’ll:
- Establish strong working relationships with the leadership team and build rapport with employees.
- Lead the recruitment process for salaried and hourly openings at your sites.
- Identify opportunities to improve standard processes in employee and labor relations.
- Strengthen the team’s commitment to Atkore’s core values: Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence.
Within 12 months, you’ll:
- Conduct meaningful performance conversations and coaching sessions with site leaders.
- Lead development and training for supervision and front-line associates.
- Serve as a backup to site HR across Safety and Infrastructure Operations.
- Resolve issues quickly and safely.
Pay
As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $81,200 - $111,650. Placement in the range depends on several factors, including competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business needs. Other compensation may include overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
