Sr. HR Business Partner Job
About the role
We are seeking a Senior HR Business Partner to join our HR team, based at our Alsip, IL production facility with travel to our Grand Rapids, MI facility. This role reports directly to the Human Resources Manager and is critical to leading and implementing HR strategy for both facilities. The position requires an HR professional well-versed in all aspects of human resources, including change management, talent acquisition and development, compensation and benefits, succession planning, workforce planning, and employment law.
The role involves operating as a vital member of the Employee-Management Committee, maintaining a balanced relationship between employees and management. You will ensure compliance with AIMS HESQ policies and practices (ISO 9001, 14001, & 18001), including legal and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ), quality systems, and safe work permit practices. The position requires strong negotiation, mediation, and judgment skills to support business objectives and provide trusted counsel to the Plant Manager and Site Leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Establish credibility and build strong partnerships with leadership teams at each site and the Corporate HR&C team.
- Act as an active member of the Plant Leadership Teams, ensuring HR topics and initiatives are discussed and represented.
- Partner to define and align HR strategy for plant-level initiatives in the Americas.
- Develop and maintain HR programs and procedures linked to client groups’ strategies.
- Lead talent acquisition, onboarding, development, hiring, promotion, and departure processes for assigned client groups, including direct management of recruitment and exits at the plant site.
- Partner with leadership to develop workforce planning, organizational development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Maintain and communicate HR metrics, including talent acquisition, turnover, promotions, transfers, terminations, and performance appraisals.
- Facilitate change management by understanding business needs and developing plans to drive necessary changes.
- Foster an environment that encourages continuous individual growth and results delivery.
- Coordinate administration of health and welfare benefits (H&W/FMLA/STD/Workers Comp) for union and non-union employees, acting as a liaison between employees, third-party administrators, and corporate HR.
- Implement HR programs, policies, and tools locally, including Performance Management, Talent Review, Employee Safety and Engagement Surveys, Reward & Recognition, and compensation-related practices.
- Lead, co-lead, or contribute to special HR projects to improve practices, processes, and data management.
- Assess, monitor, and address employee questions and concerns, referring to appropriate resources as needed.
- Ensure accuracy of employee data in HRIS (SAP) and oversee payroll processing with the Arkema Payroll Team.
- Ensure awareness and compliance with HR policies within client groups and address/resolve escalated HR issues.
- Provide counsel to leaders on employee and labor relations issues, including corrective action, conflict resolution, and harassment investigations, minimizing legal risk.
- Partner with HR leadership and Centers of Excellence (COEs) for proper process delivery and stay current on U.S. regulations to ensure compliance.
- Support the site HES policy and comply with all regulatory and internal requirements, including participation in HES activities (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart).
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as an HR generalist, encompassing recruiting, employee relations, compensation, performance management, training, and employee development.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Experience with diverse cultures and matrix reporting structures.
- Strategic and results-oriented leadership with a strong business orientation and ability to adapt to changing situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for one-to-one and group discussions.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Experience with key HR processes and systems; knowledge of SAP preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret legal and financial documents, labor contracts, labor laws, and federal regulations is a plus.
- Broad knowledge of HR practices, policies, laws, and regulations.

Position is based in a manufacturing facility with inherent risks. Work involves collaboration with operators, managers, and site champions to accomplish goals.
