Job Summary
This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole and absolute discretion.
About the Role
The Sr/Field Engineer ensures the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electrical systems across the rail network at the company. Lead field-based electrical engineering activities, including inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical infrastructure, reporting to the Sr Mgr Engineering Production. Demonstrate extensive experience in electrical engineering, coupled with a strong understanding of rail systems, and a commitment to safety and compliance.
Essential Functions
- Oversee electrical system maintenance
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for electrical system issues, ensuring operational safety and minimizing service disruptions.
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of electrical infrastructure to maintain reliability and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage electrical engineering projects, ensuring timely completion within budgetary constraints.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, industry regulations, and company standards in all electrical engineering activities, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Comprehensive experience in electrical engineering, particularly within the rail or transportation sector
- In-depth understanding of diverse electrical systems
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing electrical testing and diagnostic equipment
- Prowess in managing projects and teams, with a paramount focus on safety and quality
- Strong communication and interpersonal aptitude, fostering effective collaboration with varied teams and stakeholders
- Firm commitment to upholding safety standards, regulatory compliance, and continual enhancement of electrical engineering practices

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Pay
The salary/hourly range is $103,700.00 – $134,460.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
