About the role

Performs highly complex tasks and has in-depth knowledge for specific production processes required for the manufacture, assembly, repair, or modification of products. Is accountable for the manufacturing and/or testing of new and/or prototype products. Work is guided by diverse procedures, processes, and/or technical methods of varying complexity, with some freedom to select best methods and procedures to complete assignments.

Tasks are complex in nature, requiring considerable judgment and initiative in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions and actions may impact beyond the immediate work unit or team. Situations not covered by standard processes, procedures, and methods are referred to expert resources. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work and/or act as team lead, demonstrating work methods to new employees.

Interacts primarily with immediate supervisor, co-workers, and team members, exchanging factual information and providing explanations in a problem-solving capacity. May also engage with external contacts for similar exchanges.

As a specialist for an assigned area, directs and imparts specific work skills to group members. Works under the direction of managers or engineers to manufacture and/or test prototype and new customer products. In non-standard situations, may suggest methods and procedures for production or testing and may inform design engineers of potential design issues for corrective action.

Creates work instructions and/or test procedures considering the actual work environment and rationality based on limited information. Establishes required training programs for customers and provides direction to employees on work and test methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret test failures on test panels and troubleshoot to the root cause, including failures related to test equipment, chassis, circuit cards, components, wiring, stack-up noise, and/or connectors.
  • Troubleshoot module/component-level analog/linear circuits, including signal conditioning and data conversion (analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog).
  • Troubleshoot to the component level on circuit card assemblies (CCAs) under abnormal environmental conditions (e.g., heat and cold cycles).
  • Lead resolution of hardware anomalies, root cause analysis, and corrective action at board and box levels.
  • Produce useful engineering solutions for assigned problems independently.
  • Troubleshoot down to the component level, including resistors, inductors, and capacitors.
  • Maintain advanced solder certification and pass basic and advanced soldering tests/qualifications.

Requirements

  • Five to ten years of relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of electrical hardware engineering experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and working experience in Ohm’s Law.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline (e.g., sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics) or equivalent work experience.

Physical Demands

Duties are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, and temperature extremes. The role requires:

  • Periodic light physical effort and exertion, including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and precise hand/eye coordination.
  • Sitting in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving/handling materials.
  • Periodic heavy manual labor, including lifting objects.
  • Extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.

All demands are carried out within local existing health and safety guidelines.
