Responsibilities

  • EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) Policy Champion site-wide awareness and understanding of nLIGHT’s EHS Policy.
    • Ensure the EHS Policy remains fully compliant with statutory, regulatory and ISO 14001 requirements.
    • Recommend enhancements to the EHS Policy and ensure continued alignment with environmental and occupational health best practices.
    • Provide guidance across all levels on EHS matters, legal obligations, environmental management expectations, and industry standards.
  • EHS Management System Support
    • Corporate Sr. Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager in developing nLIGHT procedures and ensure compliance on a local level.
    • Maintain and continually improve the Environmental Management System to meet ISO 14001 requirements.
    • Identify and evaluate environmental aspects and impacts; maintain the aspects/impacts register and ensure appropriate operational controls.
    • Lead internal EHS and ISO 14001 audits, including risk assessments, operational control evaluations, and environmental data reviews.
    • Train and advise internal auditors on EHS and environmental management requirements.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve process efficiency, risk reduction, and environmental performance.
    • Conduct EHS inspections and drive corrective and preventive improvement actions.
    • Conduct ergonomic assessments for all workstations as requested.
  • Create a positive partnership with Company Leadership and serve as primary point of contact for EHS-related matters.
    • Build strong partnerships with facility leadership, serving as the primary point of contact for EHS and environmental matters.
    • Coach local leaders to build technical competence and EHS/EMS leadership capabilities.
    • Review and approve new equipment for EHS and environmental compliance through nLIGHT’s station sign-off process.
    • Support EHS Committee monthly meetings.
    • Oversee Emergency Response Teams, including drill planning and execution.
    • Oversee hazardous material receiving, storage, and disposal processes in accordance with regulatory and ISO 14001 requirements.
    • Maintain a compliant and robust Hazard Communication Program, including SDS accuracy and availability.
  • Incident Management
    • Oversee the full incident management process, including reporting, classification, investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective/preventive action tracking, and verification of effectiveness.
    • Ensure timely reporting of incidents and near-misses and maintain compliance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
    • Lead or support investigations of serious incidents, coordinating with facility leadership and technical experts.
    • Analyze trends in incident, environmental, and risk-related data to identify systemic issues and drive preventive strategies.
    • Manage workers' compensation cases, including coordination with third-party claims adjusters, case review, medical provider communication, and documentation accuracy.
    • Monitor the return-to-work process to support employee recovery while minimizing business disruption.
    • Maintain confidential and legally compliant handling of injury and illness information.
    • Communicate findings, lessons learned, and program improvements across the organization.
  • EHS Reporting
    • Prepare and submit monthly EHS Scorecards for the site.
    • Complete and submit OSHA logs for the site.
    • Prepare and submit required environmental compliance reports (air, water, waste, emissions, etc.) for the site.
    • Track, manage, and report environmental objectives, targets, and performance indicators in alignment with ISO 14001 requirements.
    • Verify implementation and effectiveness of incident corrective/preventive actions.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to incidents, environmental compliance, and workers' compensation.
  • Product Safety Compliance
    • Support QEHS Director and Engineering regarding product safety and environmental compliance.
    • Maintain the position as subject matter expert for laser safety for the site.
    • Review and approve Laser SOPs and Laser station configurations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of EHS experience with demonstrated success in hazard elimination, incident management, and employee engagement.
  • Proven ability to work independently with strong organizational and self-management skills.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • 7+ years in EHS within a high-technology manufacturing environment.
    • Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 14001 or other management system standards.
    • Experience leading incident programs, root-cause analysis, and workers' compensation claim management.
    • Knowledge of product safety compliance.
    • Demonstrated improvements in leading and lagging EHS indicators.
  • Required Skills:
    • Strong decision-making capabilities and collaborative working style.
    • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations.
    • In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental regulations, ISO 14001 requirements, and industry standards.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to drive accountability and clearly articulate the business impact of non-compliance.
    • Ability to build trust, influence, and support stakeholders at all levels.
