About the role

The Senior Enterprise System Programmer leads the technical functions of enterprise application development at the University of Texas at San Antonio, a nationally recognized, top-tier public research university and Carnegie R1-designated institution advancing knowledge, social mobility, and public health across South Texas and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, utilize, and maintain enterprise web and mobile applications, including application security, in accordance with software requirements and UTSA community objectives.
  • Design and help architect large-scale web-based applications using 3-Tier software architecture and agile methodology.
  • Support projects through the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC): design, development, testing, and production release.
  • Collaborate with the enterprise Data Architect and Enterprise user interface Designer to design and develop layouts for web, Windows, and mobile applications.
  • Architect and develop software solutions used university-wide to support student, faculty, and staff services, ERP systems, and other university business functions.
  • Develop prototypes using functional specifications for software projects.
  • Conduct code reviews, provide improvement feedback, and document/report findings.
  • Utilize source control management tools and evaluate new standards, technologies, and trends in design, development, and delivery with the Web Solution Architect.
  • Support and maintain implementation of complex off-the-shelf components or applications requiring development.
  • Consult with key customers and external entities to define business requirements, create technical strategies, and provide technical support to drive solutions to implementation.
  • Provide feedback on testing, usability, requirements, UML diagrams, and software development processes, policies, procedures, and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with database administrators and the Database Architect on the design, development, testing, and implementation of custom applications.
  • Identify system deficiencies and develop and implement solutions.
  • Meet development deadlines and schedules, deliver high-quality products, and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain effective working relationships; follow through on commitments; foster mutual trust with team members.
  • Troubleshoot and correct performance problems related to web, desktop, and mobile applications; provide technical assistance and training.
  • Assist with special projects, new technologies, and deadlines as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Five years of related work experience.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Ellucian SaaS products (Dataconnect, Ellucian Workflow, Experience, etc.) and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with Axiom Elite Integrations.
  • Familiarity with PL/SQL development.
  • Design, develop, and implement business process automations.

  • Proficiency with systems design, programming, and scripting.
  • Ability to recognize when to escalate a procedural issue.
  • Skill in developing documentation, providing customer support, and training users.
  • Ability to proactively learn, adapt to, and use new hardware/software technologies.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to deliver tasks on time, manage rapidly changing priorities, and handle multiple efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with mature judgment.
  • Well-developed customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships.
  • Commitment to staying abreast of new and emerging technology solutions through training and technology briefings.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a broad team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • High proficiency using Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

  • Office and data processing environment with occasional exposure to extreme cold and risk of electrical shock.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Occasional travel to meetings, training sessions, or multiple university-owned campuses and leased spaces.
  • Required to be on stand-by call status, carrying a pager, cell phone, or two-way radio and respond to after-hours emergency calls.
  • Stand-by call status may include evenings, after hours, odd hours, shift work, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
  • Flexibility in scheduling may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, and/or use repetitive motions.
  • Repetitive motions may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers; reaching overhead, at or below shoulder level.
  • Work primarily on campus; travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
