Sr Software Engineer, Enterprise Systems
About the role
This position will be based in Wendell, NC (hybrid). In this role, you will serve as a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, and modernizing scalable, secure, and business-critical enterprise software solutions. This is not entry-level or "learn-on-the-job" position. Successful candidates must have demonstrated experience in building and supporting enterprise-grade software applications in production environments and be capable of contributing immediately with minimal supervision, training, or ramp-up time. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of delivering cloud-native applications, modernizing legacy systems, building APIs and distributed services, and driving technical excellence through hands-on development, architecture contributions, code reviews, and mentoring. This role requires strong technical judgment, ownership, and the ability to independently deliver complex software solutions while collaborating effectively across globally distributed teams.

- Designing, developing/maintaining scalable, secure, & high-performance enterprise software solutions
- Supporting application modernization initiatives, including migrating legacy systems to modern, cloud-based architectures
- Building cloud-native and web-based applications using modern frameworks, APIs, and microservices
- Contributing hands-on through coding, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipeline development
- Collaborating with cross-functional partners and providing technical guidance to junior, offshore, and contract developers
- Applying and promoting software engineering best practices across the full development lifecycle
- Integrating AI capabilities into existing tools and applications to improve efficiency, automation, and user experience
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of recent, hands-on experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-grade software applications in production environments. Candidates must demonstrate a proven record of independently delivering complex software solutions, troubleshooting production issues, and contributing technical leadership as a senior engineer.
- Software development using modern programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, or similar
- Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure experience is required. Candidates must have practical experience developing, deploying, monitoring, securing, and supporting applications in Azure production environments. Experience limited to exposure, coursework, certifications, or non-production projects will not be considered sufficient. AWS experience is a plus.
- Experience developing and supporting enterprise software applications, web applications, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems is required. Experience primarily focused on mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, CAD/CAE tools, simulation platforms, engineering analytics, or engineering support tools does not qualify as equivalent enterprise software development experience.
- Application modernization, legacy system migration, and API-based integrations
- CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, automated testing, and code quality standards
- Full software development lifecycle from requirements through deployment
- Experience integrating AI or data-driven capabilities into existing applications
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience leading technical initiatives as a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead without direct people-management responsibility.
- Experience developing enterprise SaaS, cloud-native, or business-critical applications.
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver large technical features and solutions with minimal supervision.
- Experience working within highly available, secure, scalable, and reliability-focused enterprise environments.
- Experience collaborating with globally distributed and offshore development teams.
- Experience with containerized and cloud-native architectures, including Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Experience integrating AI-powered capabilities, automation, or predictive analytics into software applications.
- Experience in the energy, utility, or industrial technology sectors, including knowledge of SCADA, EMS, IoT, energy management, or related technologies.
- Strong understanding of security best practices for cloud-native applications.
- Experience with modern development platforms and tools including GitHub, Azure DevOps, JIRA, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
