About This Opportunity

This is a remote position involving close collaboration with a small, specialized technical team supporting the CFIUS data center in Somerset, New Jersey, which services OSS Classic (fTelcordia) products. We are seeking a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer to join a collaborative team supporting Ericsson's IBM z/OS-based mainframe infrastructure. The team manages mainframe hardware and software platforms, maintains software currency, and ensures systems remain reliable, secure, and high performing. In this role, you will work alongside experienced mainframe professionals to implement new technologies and support an internal community of Ericsson application developers and testers — enabling solutions used by Tier 1 telecommunications carriers across North America.

What You Will Do

  • Provide technical leadership across all aspects of the z/OS platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and security
  • Collaborate with a small, specialized engineering team to deliver critical infrastructure initiatives
  • Lead evaluation, installation, customization, and migration efforts for new z/OS releases and components
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive resolution across integrated mainframe environments
  • Ensure compliance with internal IT policies, standards, and security requirements
  • Optimize system performance through capacity planning and performance management
  • Support and upgrade key z/OS subsystems: JES2 (including local exits), TSO/ISPF (including local customizations), RACF, SMS, HCD, and SMF/RMF
  • Design, implement, and manage RACF security environments, including day-to-day administration and strategic enhancements

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required (due to CFIUS National Security Agreement requirements)
  • At least 10 years of hands-on z/OS experience, with current expertise aligned to z/OS 3.1
  • Deep knowledge of z/OS architecture, RACF security administration, and SMP/E maintenance and software management
  • Proven experience leading mainframe migration and upgrade projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex technical environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in performance tuning and capacity planning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Connect:Direct is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Self-directed research ability with a proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment

Pay

Location: Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Vermont — $140,000 – $194,250 USD

Location: California (except Bay Area counties), District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Washington State — $158,500 – $207,900 USD

Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan: Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit's objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

The Ericsson US 401(k) Plan offers an automatic 3% company contribution and Ericsson match $1 for every $1 you put into the 401(k) Plan on the first 3% of your eligible pay, plus 50 cents on every $1 on the next 2% of eligible pay. When you contribute at least 5% of eligible pay, you are receiving Ericsson's full matching contributions of 4%. Matching and company automatic contributions stop when your total eligible pay for the year reaches the IRS limits. Employees will also receive company credits in an amount equal to the cost of basic life insurance and basic accidental death and dismemberment coverage, as well as short-term and long-term disability coverage. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson's Stock Purchase Plan.

Your Time: Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 15 days of accrued vacation, up to 3 personal days per year, 11 annual holidays, 8 hours of volunteer time, and 80 hours of sick time annually. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee's start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 16 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
