Responsibilities
- Performs testing assignments and provides guidance to newer engineers/technicians.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the current distribution system design.
- Evaluates, develops, and implements new test equipment, tools, and designs.
- Participates in training and attends classes.
- Supports general engineer functions in Distribution Automation.
- Independently or leads employees/contractors in the commissioning of electrical systems or equipment.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on distribution and transmission relays, communications equipment, power reclosers, etc.
- Conducts basic hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment.
- Restores malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment under emergency conditions.
- Completes required paperwork to document work performed.
- Provides on-the-job and formal classroom training.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 or more years of technical experience, or an associate's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience, or 7 or more years of technical experience or relevant education.
- Successful completion of the TECH Test.
- Demonstrated ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems.
- Demonstrated ability using OJE process to independently investigate and test/troubleshoot & commission distribution automation system equipment.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory.
- Available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations.
- Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement.
- Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service.
- Relevant education/experience is knowledge and/or skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree program.
Skills
- Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
- Experience in a military role (transmission, distribution, gas, power systems, etc.).
- Project management experience.
- Journey-level electrician or gas technician experience.
- Field operations experience.
- Utility-related experience.

- Annual salary range: $88,000.00/Yr. – $121,000.00/Yr.
