About the role

We are looking for talented individuals to join our Testing and Commissioning Engineering team. As a front-line field engineering force, you will commission, maintain, and troubleshoot transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. Your responsibilities include creating commissioning plans, writing live-working procedures, creating and running test plans, and analyzing test results compared to expected values. You will also troubleshoot and perform field investigations for malfunctioning power equipment, system events, and protective relaying misoperations. Additionally, you will support corrective maintenance to repair any identified equipment issues and perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership by directing and supporting substation maintenance and contractor crews on work associated with these systems.
  • Continually interface with ComEd’s Central T&S Engineering, Work Management, Project Management, Operations, Data Maintenance, and Substation Maintenance departments to support the T&S daily work activities.
  • Play a critical role in substation outage/work planning, maintaining engineering drawings, relay/SCADA database management, NERC/CIP audit support, supporting the engineering PM & CM maintenance programs, and advocating for the ComEd Safety culture.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 0-3 years of technical experience, an associate's degree and 2-5 years of technical experience, or 5-7 years of technical experience or relevant education, if non-degreed or a non-technical degree.
  • Successful completion of the TECH Test (a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts this requirement).
  • Good knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service.
  • The ability to read blueprints and schematics and use basic test instruments.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • The ability to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day).

  • Experience in a field work environment, troubleshooting equipment, and hands-on learning.
  • Having a company vehicle.
  • The opportunity for overtime.

Skills

  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.
