Sr. Engineering Manager
Position Summary
The Senior Engineering Manager is a high-impact Engineering Site Leader responsible for driving product definition, engineering alignment, and execution excellence across Vertiv’s Single-Phase UPS portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical leadership defining new product design specifications, resolving complex customer technical issues pertaining to Single-Phase UPS products.
- Provides technical leadership to internal Vertiv functions - marketing, sales, application engineering, customer technical support and service, and manufacturing.
- Leads, mentors, and coaches a team of Product engineers, Lead Engineers, Sustaining team and test technicians.
- Bridges product definition and design execution to consistently deliver measurable business outcomes and improved customer experience.
- Manages the team’s day-to-day responsibilities and reporting status. Assigns priorities to the team and assists them with escalating issues and solving problems.
- Oversees the lab and Test engineers who support the product testing, DVT and Regression tests, reviews the tests and results to ensure defect-free product and firmware launches.
- Reviews and tracks the engineering OpEx budget for their group.
- Manages CapEx projects from initial quoting to commissioning and ability to track the spending and effectively utilize company funds.
- Owns product engineering deliverables including quality of customer-facing documentation such as QIG, Technical Manuals etc.
- Implements new processes to improve engineering performance and improves NPDI product launch Time-To-Market metrics.
- Organizes and actively drives Design Reviews, DFx Reviews, Pilot Builds, Testing, PPAP activities.
- Leads and mentors cross-functional teams to come up with permanent resolutions for the issues identified during these formal reviews.
- Thinks strategically, sees bigger picture to effectively improve New Product launch performance and field issues resolution which will positively impact Vertiv Single Phase UPS business positioning, growth, reputation and market share.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years Engineering Leadership experience: R&D, Product Engineering, Technical team management.
- Product Design & Engineering: Full product lifecycle expertise, Electrical (circuits, PCB, UPS ≤20kW, rectifiers, inverters, BMS), Firmware (embedded, DSP), Mechanical (3D design, sheet metal, plastics, vendors).
- Testing & Compliance: DVT, regression testing, Regulatory, safety, and certification.
- Subject matter expert in Single Phase UPS products & technology, provide technical information on current products pertaining to customer issues or new product specifications.
- Experience in writing &/or approving technical publications, Functional Requirements, Technical Requirements documents.
- Experience in mentoring Product Engineers, Lead Engineers, Sustaining and Test teams to efficiently solve design issues and customer problems.
- Excellent organizational skills, handle multiple priorities, and ability to effectively manage team activities.
- Ability to effectively lead during times of uncertainty and ambiguity by thinking strategically and at the same time providing tactical solutions for superior execution.
- Excellent technical project management skills and ability to effectively communicate project status to senior leadership.
- Engineering software and systems familiarity. Oracle, Agile, CREO, Mentor Graphics, etc.
- Excellent planning, organizing, and communication skills. Ability to successfully communicate and articulate complex topics to a broad range of people in a global team environment.
