Sr Engineer Controls - 3rd Shift

The Hershey Company Reese plant is a Non-Union facility producing products such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups & Kit Kat in a high-speed complex environment.

About the role

The primary role of the Electrical/Controls Specialist is to provide technical support ensuring production lines and plant processes are operational. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining process instrumentation, PLCs, control systems, and computers. Expertise in installation, maintenance, and repair of plant electrical systems—including equipment troubleshooting, power distribution, motor control, and network/data security—is required. The Specialist will coordinate activities with internal teams and external contractors for non-routine preventive maintenance (PM) and capital projects, ensuring compliance with safety, GMPs, sanitation, and electrical codes.

Responsibilities

• Provide 2nd level technical support to plant electricians and technicians for production issues or downtime.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant control systems, PLCs, motion controllers, HMIs, electrical systems, and networks.
• Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, manuals, schematics, and blueprints to maintain and improve equipment uptime.
• Set up, configure, program, and improve PLC programs.
• Manage non-routine PM work and capital projects, including directing contractors, obtaining quotes, purchasing parts, and updating electrical drawings.
• Assist with power distribution switchgear maintenance and switching.
• Maintain Process Control Network security procedures and policies.
• Ensure electrical safety and machine guarding compliance with corporate and governmental regulations.
• Develop and provide technical training to Technical Assurance personnel.
• Assist Reese Engineering & Safety with equipment inspections, ensuring proper labeling and functioning of safety equipment.

Requirements

• Experience with processing and packaging equipment, control systems, instrumentation, and computers.
• Ability to plan and execute multiple priorities with minimal direction and supervision.
• Ability to troubleshoot, modify, and improve PLC and motion control programs.
• Knowledge of DC, servo, and variable frequency motors and drives.
• Knowledge of ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+, Remote IO, PROFIBUS, and Ethernet networks.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E and other government electrical regulations.
• Understanding of local area networks, subnetting, and routing.
• Understanding of electrical power distribution, including panelboards, motor control centers, bus ways, and substations.
• Understanding of project management tools, such as purchase requisitions, contractor time monitoring, and project timelines.
• Ability to coordinate activities of contractors, vendors, and plant electricians, and communicate technical data to non-technical personnel.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during plant shutdowns as required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field (preferred).
