Sr. Electrical Engineer, Data Center Engineering
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. You will design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, justify technical decisions to senior management, and drive continuous advancements in our designs. This role offers the opportunity to define and design systems that our customers rely on, with a focus on quality, speed, and cost.
Responsibilities
- Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
- Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements while staying within budgetary constraints.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
- Review and approve equipment submittals and define critical equipment specifications.
- Provide technical support for information requests before and during construction phases.
- Work with commissioning teams to test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
- Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Travel to sites for reviews, work with field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, audits, and startup support as needed.
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to complex problems.
- Support construction from site selection through commissioning and turnover.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in data center or mission-critical design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
- Ability to work on concurrent projects across multiple regions.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time for site reviews and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of direct data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of regional building codes and regulations.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
Base salary ranges by location:
- USA, GA, Atlanta: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
- USA, OH, Columbus: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
- USA, TX, Austin: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
- USA, VA, Herndon: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
