About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. This role involves tackling complex problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, collaborating with diverse teams of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver high standards for safety, security, and capacity at the lowest possible cost.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will join a global team responsible for designing and innovating AWS’s rapidly expanding data center footprint. You will design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, justify technical decisions to senior management, and drive continuous advancements in design. This role offers the opportunity to define and design systems relied upon by customers, work on multi-million-dollar projects, and contribute to an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
  • Create designs that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
  • Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews, work with field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, audits, and startup support as needed.
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to challenges.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center/mission-critical mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience in data center/mission-critical design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center/mission-critical equipment and facilities.
  • Ability to define critical equipment specifications and approve equipment submittals.
  • Capability to take designs from concept to permit and construction document sets.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time for site reviews and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay

Base salary ranges by location:

  • USA, GA, Atlanta: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, OH, Columbus: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Austin: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, VA, Herndon: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
  • USA, WA, Seattle: $136,600 - $184,800 USD annually
