Sr. Director, Energy Management

This position is 4 days (M-Th) onsite in Brentwood, TN.

About the Role

The Senior Director, Energy Management provides primary leadership in managing utility-related activities and develops energy strategies that include energy efficiency projects and improvements in operational and maintenance practices across all facilities.

Responsibilities

• Monitors energy consumption and oversees the development of consumption reports to monitor facilities' utility consumption.
• Participates as an auditor in the corporate energy reduction program.
• Develops utility usage reports for Operations for use in the development of facility goals per CoreCivic Policy.
• Makes recommendations for energy conservation and implements projects that will result in the reduction of energy use of electricity, natural gas, propane, and water.
• Recommends or makes modifications to mechanical and electrical systems.
• Reviews proposed maintenance and renovation projects for energy efficiency; provides recommendations for maintenance, renovations, and new construction projects relative to energy use.
• Oversees implementation of Energy Cost Saving Measures (ECMs) as proposed by Performance Contractors.
• Provides forecasting of future utility use for multi-year budgeting.
• Partners with energy providers to secure favorable supply-side agreements.
• Resolves utility and energy service provider issues.
• Conducts facility condition assessments and energy audits.
• Oversees ongoing review of facilities to identify cost-reducing measures from implementation of energy efficiency initiatives.
• Coordinates with field operations to resolve mechanical problems affecting energy efficiency and consumption.
• Supervises staff in the performance of their duties, including onboarding, evaluating performance, preparing written performance reviews, resolving disputes, taking corrective or disciplinary action, developing work schedules, and approving leave requests.
• Implements and maintains utility tracking database systems.
• Tracks and assesses CoreCivic's greenhouse gas emissions profile, as well as other sustainability metrics that relate to utilities consumption.
• Oversees Real Estate Department inputs to the annual Environmental, Social, and Governance Report, including Green Design and Green Operations material topics.
• Analyzes trends and identifies causes of energy overages and opportunities for savings.
• Provides technical and professional support regarding applicable energy consumption and reduction throughout the company, ensuring regulatory and company compliance via established auditing processes and risk analysis.
• Tracks all maintenance responses to Comprehensive Assessment Tools, including maintenance staffing, annual repairs and maintenance cost estimates, maintenance capital expenditure needs, and utility cost estimates.
• Engages utilities and local municipalities during the design process of new construction to ensure capacity availability and favorable rate structures.
• Maintains relationships with municipal administrations.
• Participates in the commissioning process for new construction, from commissioning agent selection to final reporting by General Contractor.
• Develops strategy for implementation of direct digital controls and analytics.
• Maintains accountability for computerized maintenance management system, capital asset management database, and preventative maintenance tasks.
• Leads energy assessment/monitoring activities, including data gathering of current baseline status and ongoing monitoring programs.
• Supervises the operations and staff at the Arizona Water/Waste Water Treatment Plant at the Eloy Complex.
• Develops R&M and CapEx budgets and ensures that the plant maintains all state-required certifications per state statutes.
• Participates in annual CapEx budget planning and assists the facility maintenance department with the execution of CapEx projects.
• Domestic U.S. travel may be required.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in progressive energy engineering.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial and industrial energy engineering, utility cost analysis, life-cycle cost analysis, and facility management.
• Active membership in professional energy organizations and certifications in energy management and/or building automation are preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and direct the activities of others toward the accomplishment of goals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
