Sr. Data Center Project Manager, Critical Projects Implementation
We are seeking a Data Center Project Manager to serve as a technical resource within Amazon data centers. You will be part of a team tasked with tackling complex challenges in designing, building, and operating Amazon data facilities. This role involves project oversight and review across electrical, mechanical, controls, and architectural disciplines, with a focus on optimizing space, power, and cooling in operational data centers globally.
About the role
The Critical Projects Implementation (CPI) team manages construction activity within operational data center spaces, focusing on critical infrastructure improvement projects outside the scope of standard construction or preventative maintenance. As a Project Manager, you will oversee projects from direction to completion, ensuring alignment with company strategy and goals. Responsibilities include identifying areas for improvement, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and deploying innovative solutions to operational challenges.

Responsibilities
- Oversee and review projects across electrical, mechanical, controls, and architectural disciplines.
- Identify areas for improvement in data center infrastructure, including power distribution, mechanical cooling, fire detection, and building automation systems.
- Manage trade-offs, incorporate feedback, and evaluate new ideas with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure project consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Act on data provided by other teams and organizations to drive operational excellence.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience managing projects in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure (e.g., 24/7 emergency backup systems, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, utilities, or mass transportation).
- 7+ years of experience in construction or project management.
- 7+ years of on-site construction trades experience (mechanical, electrical, general).
- Experience in construction of data center delivery (design, commissioning, and construction) or equivalent industrial/manufacturing facility builds.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical, mechanical, and controls systems.
- Proven ability to self-motivate, follow through on projects, and deliver results in a detail-oriented manner.
- Strong vendor management skills.
Qualifications
- BA/BS in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a similar technical field (preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in power distribution and data center mechanical cooling systems (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and deploy innovative solutions to operational challenges.
Pay
Base salary range: $139,300.00 - $208,000.00 USD annually (Ashburn, VA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Additional compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
