About the Role
The Senior Creative Lead serves as the firm's creative strategist and visual brand steward, responsible for shaping a distinctive, consistent, and elevated creative expression across marketing, business development, recruiting, internal communications, and client-facing initiatives. This role collaborates with design and marketing professionals to provide creative direction, brand guidance, and design expertise while fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and shared ownership of outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Set the strategic creative vision and visual standards for major firm initiatives in partnership with Communications, Business Development, and firm leadership.
- Own and evolve the firm's visual identity system, including logo usage, typography, color palette, imagery, templates, and brand guidelines.
- Translate firm priorities and business objectives into compelling creative approaches that strengthen market positioning and audience engagement.
- Guide brand consistency and creative quality across print, digital, presentation, campaign, and client-facing materials.
Creative Direction, Design Systems & High-Impact Execution
- Develop and refine reusable templates, design systems, and production standards that enable the broader team to execute efficiently and consistently.
- Create, elevate, or refine select high-visibility materials where senior creative expertise is required, including pitch books, proposals, campaign assets, presentation decks, event materials, and digital content.
- Translate complex legal, policy, and business development content into clear, compelling, and visually engaging formats.
- Source and direct photography, illustration, data visualization, and other visual assets to support the firm's evolving brand expression.
- Ensure priority materials meet a high standard of design quality, brand consistency, usability, and polish across print and digital channels.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide creative consultation and coaching to marketing and communications team members to build shared design judgment and strengthen execution across the department.
- Facilitate collaboration across Communications, Business Development, Recruiting, and Operations to ensure creative solutions support broader firm objectives.
- Partner with the marketing team to align campaign concepts, stakeholder input, and execution timelines.
- Work closely with attorneys, lobbyists, and government relations professionals to understand practice priorities and audience needs.
- Establish and maintain efficient creative workflows, review cycles, and version control.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all creative output meets professional standards appropriate for a legal/government relations environment—polished, credible, and on-brand.
- Maintain awareness of industry-specific communication norms and compliance considerations.
- Manage production timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships for print and digital projects.
Requirements
- 15+ years of professional design experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead creative role.
- Exceptional portfolio demonstrating a range of work across print, digital, and presentation design.
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and information design.
- Experience developing and maintaining brand identity systems and style guides.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a professional services environment (law firm, government relations, consulting, financial services, or similar).
- Familiarity with PowerPoint template design and advanced formatting.
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS or experience working with CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal, etc.).
- Experience directing photo and video shoots.
- Knowledge of print production processes, paper stocks, and vendor management.
- Motion graphics or video editing experience (Premiere, After Effects).
Pay
Salary for this role ranges from $125,000 to $150,000.
