Title: Senior Business Development Manager (Outside Sales, Individual Contributor) Location: Home-based, covering the Chicago South and Southwest Suburbs territory (roughly I-290 south to Joliet and Frankfort), with a monthly in-person meeting in the northern suburbs of Illinois. Local territory with no overnight travel Hours: Full-time; field-based, self-directed schedule Duration & Type: Direct hire, full-time Compensation: Base salary of $80,000 to $125,000 (commensurate with experience), guaranteed through year one while you build your book, plus commission on every new account you win: an elevated rate for the first two years and a residual for as long as the account stays with the company. Includes a $600 monthly car allowance, work fuel, and a comprehensive benefits package (plan details available upon request) Summary Chamberlain Advisors is partnering with a 40-year, family-owned commercial fuel distributor to identify a Senior Business Development Manager to join its outside sales team. This is an individual-contributor role with no direct reports, built for a dedicated new-business hunter. The Senior Business Development Manager will drive new-customer growth across the Chicago South and Southwest Suburbs, opening net-new commercial fuel accounts and handing each one to a dedicated Customer Success team so their time stays focused entirely on the next win. This is an excellent opportunity for a proven B2B hunter with a quantified record of winning new logos (not growing an inherited book) and the organization and discipline to run a large territory independently from home. The ideal candidate plans each day geographically, delivers detailed proposals on time, and keeps their pipeline current in the CRM every day, while engaging everyone from job-site project managers to company owners and presidents. We are seeking a professional who sells value, not price. Because fuel itself is a commodity, our client wins on the solutions that set it apart: tank monitoring, a deep dispatch team, fuel control systems, and site solutions. The right candidate can explain daily fuel price movement with confidence, hold margin under pricing pressure, and stay with an opportunity through the multi-month process of converting a customer from an incumbent supplier. Why This Opportunity A pure hunting seat: Customer Success Managers take over every account after the close, so your focus stays 100% on new businessCommission that keeps paying: An elevated commission rate on each new customer for two years, then a residual on that account for as long as it stays with the companyRoom to ramp: A guaranteed first-year base, set by experience, gives you time to build your book without income riskReal differentiators to sell: Tank monitoring, a deep dispatch team, fuel control systems, and site solutions mean you are never selling on price aloneLocal territory: A $600 monthly car allowance plus work fuel, with no out-of-town or overnight travelOwner-led, not a number: A collaborative, family-first culture with big-company benefits What You Will Be Accountable For Prospect, develop, and close new commercial fuel accounts across the Chicago South and Southwest Suburbs territory (roughly I-290 south to Joliet and Frankfort)Operate as a 100% new-business hunter, transitioning closed accounts to the Customer Success team for ongoing service and account managementWin approximately two to three new customers per month, building a new customer book of approximately 500,000 gallons sold by the end of year twoPlan territory coverage, routes, and daily activity geographically and in advance to maximize time in front of prospectsLead with value and solutions (tank monitoring, dispatch support, fuel control systems, and site solutions) rather than competing on price, and protect margin under pricing pressureExplain fuel pricing and daily market movement to buyers with clarity and confidenceBuild and deliver detailed, accurate, and timely proposals tailored to each prospect’s fueling operations and needsEngage and build credibility with decision makers from job-site project managers to owners and presidents, across accounts ranging from 10-person contractors to large multi-location fleetsSustain opportunities through multi-month sales cycles, converting customers from incumbent suppliers without discounting to force a closeLog all prospecting activity, pipeline, and opportunities in the CRM (HubSpot) on a daily basisPartner with dispatch, Customer Success, and sales leadership to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new customersRepresent the company at local trade shows, golf outings, and industry events within the territoryAttend a monthly in-person sales meeting in Mundelein and use the New Lenox office as needed What Qualifications You Need 10+ years of B2B outside sales experience carrying a new-business quota, with a quantified record of winning net-new accounts (exceptional hunters with 5+ years and consistent, documented new-logo results will be considered)Experience selling a commodity or price-volatile product or service, with the ability to explain price movement to buyers confidently (fuel experience is a plus, not a requirement)Demonstrated ability to sell on value, service, and solutions rather than price, with a track record of protecting marginHighly organized, with a clear, repeatable method for planning territory coverage and daily activityDaily, hands-on use of a CRM system (HubSpot, Salesforce, or comparable) to manage pipeline and activityStrong proposal-writing and typing skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)Self-motivated and able to work independently from a home-based territory with minimal oversightStrong written and verbal communication skills, equally effective on a job site and in an owner’s officePersistence and resilience through a relationship-driven, multi-touch sales cycleMotivated by a commission-driven earnings model and comfortable handing closed accounts to Customer Success to pursue the next opportunityMust reside in or near the Chicago South and Southwest Suburbs and hold a valid driver’s licenseMust be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship Preferred Qualifications Experience selling fuel, lubricants, propane, industrial or specialty gases, aggregates, ready-mix or asphalt, energy supply, chemicals, or fuel cards and fleet paymentsExperience selling to fleet and job-site buyers through equipment rental, truck leasing, telematics, or similar contractor and fleet servicesEstablished network among contractors, excavators, fleets, and commercial operators in the South and Southwest SuburbsExperience selling to both small, owner-operated businesses and large, multi-location organizationsExperience working in a hunter / customer success sales modelHands-on experience with HubSpot CRM About Our Client Our client is a trusted, family-owned commercial fuel distributor serving businesses across Chicagoland.
