Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Play a key role in the successful delivery of bridge engineering projects across both traditional (design-bid-build) and alternative delivery (design-build) methods.
  • Oversee technical execution, support project management efforts, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations, quality standards, schedules, and budgets.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, constructible solutions for complex bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Support the planning, development, coordination, and execution of bridge projects, including highway, rail, and pedestrian structures.
  • Work alongside Project Managers to successfully deliver both design-bid-build and design-build projects, including accelerated schedules and contractor-driven environments.
  • Lead technical tasks and coordinate with internal disciplines (geotechnical, hydraulics, traffic, environmental) and external partners.
  • Serve as a task manager or deputy PM on select projects.
  • Mentor and develop early-career engineers, supporting their technical growth and progression toward licensure.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable standards including AASHTO, DOT, FHWA, and project-specific requirements.
  • Support QA/QC processes and adherence to KCI’s quality management systems.
  • Engage in professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, ACEC) and industry events to strengthen client relationships and market presence.
  • Assist in recruiting and attracting top bridge engineering talent.
  • Support the Project Manager in managing project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Contribute to achieving utilization and performance targets.
  • Lead and perform structural design and analysis for bridges and related infrastructure (steel, concrete, prestressed, etc.).
  • Develop design calculations, plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with client and agency standards.
  • Perform field reviews, site visits, and inspections to inform design and verify existing conditions.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals, particularly in design-build environments.
  • Support construction-phase services, including responding to field issues and evaluating design modifications.
  • Develop preliminary and final designs, including alternatives analysis and value engineering.
  • Interpret and apply technical documents, plans, and specifications to ensure accurate execution.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry) Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects.
  • Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree.
  • Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
