About the role
We are looking for an experienced Accounting Analyst to support accurate financial reporting and core accounting operations for a credit union in Macomb County. This role is responsible for producing timely financial information, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and supporting compliance-driven reporting requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical ability, sound knowledge of accounting standards, and a hands-on approach to month-end and year-end activities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, supporting schedules, footnotes, and reporting packages used for internal and external purposes.
- Complete regulatory, operational, and management reports by gathering financial data, validating accuracy, and presenting meaningful analysis.
- Lead month-end close activities by posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, reviewing balances, and finalizing ledger activity across related accounts.
- Examine financial transactions to ensure proper treatment under generally accepted accounting principles and resolve discrepancies when identified.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and coordinate requested materials for audits, examinations, and other review processes.
- Evaluate general ledger and settlement activity to identify control gaps, improve accuracy, and strengthen accounting procedures.
- Contribute to the enhancement of accounting methods, internal policies, and process workflows to support efficient and compliant operations.
- Prepare and coordinate required tax filings and escheatment reporting, including applicable federal, state, and local submissions.
- Support wire transfer accounting and related reconciliation activities to help ensure complete and accurate recording of cash movement.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including substantial responsibility for month-end close and financial reporting.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliation practices, and call or regulatory reporting.
- Experience preparing financial statements, variance analysis, expense analysis, and other financial reviews.
- Ability to perform detailed account analysis and bank reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Understanding of GAAP and its application to transaction review, reporting, and account classification.
- Background supporting tax filings, regulatory reporting, audits, or examinations in a financial services environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in identifying process improvement opportunities and strengthening accounting controls.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
