Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a school-based organization in Waipahu, Hawaii on a Long-term Contract assignment. This role will oversee high-level accounting activities, help maintain reliable financial reporting, and support sound fiscal practices across multiple campuses and programs. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven nonprofit or education setting. Responsibilities:• Manage complex general ledger activities, including preparing journal entries, reviewing account activity, and supporting an accurate month-end close process.• Produce timely financial reports and reconciliations to help ensure complete, accurate, and well-documented accounting records.• Provide support for accounts payable and disbursement processing when needed, partnering with the senior AP function to maintain timely payments and proper documentation.• Monitor cash activity and complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.• Assist with budget-related accounting tasks by tracking financial activity and comparing results against planned spending.• Maintain accounting oversight for grants and restricted funds, ensuring expenditures are recorded appropriately and funding requirements are followed.• Support payroll and employee-related accounting activities as needed, including related reconciliations and financial record maintenance.• Strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures by reviewing processes, documenting practices, and helping improve compliance across finance operations.• Contribute to special projects, financial analysis, and accounting support for multiple campuses, programs, and related entities as assigned. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; comparable relevant experience may be considered. • At least five years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit, educational, governmental, or multi-site organizations. • Strong command of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and internal control practices. • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Desktop and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, and pivot tables. • Ability to analyze financial data, investigate variances, and maintain clear and accurate supporting documentation. • Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently. • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. • Experience with grant accounting, restricted funds, or compliance-focused financial environments is strongly preferred.
