About the Role
The Senior Accountant analyzes financial information and prepares accurate financial reports to maintain reliable records of the organization’s financial activities. This role performs complex general accounting functions, including financial analysis, account reconciliations, and reporting to support sound financial management and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. The Senior Accountant collaborates with finance and operational teams to ensure financial data integrity, support budgeting and forecasting, and provide insights for informed business decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate clear performance expectations and measures for accounting functions.
- Support Health, Safety, and Environmental Management systems and regulatory compliance.
- Provide operational input for mine planning budgets and forecasts.
- Schedule, coordinate, and conduct monthly financial review meetings with departments, reporting actuals against budget and reviewing variances.
- Analyze data and advise senior managers on planning, strategizing, and performance against budget and forecast.
- Generate monthly headcount variance reports and prepare forecast roll-ups.
- Manage capital accounting processes, including capital spend, fixed assets, and all entity accounting.
- Complete the Gold Bar Dashboard monthly.
- Generate end-of-month purchasing reports and reconciliations.
- Ensure receipt and storage of Gold Bar month-end reports from site mining and site process.
- Review and submit cost reviews and reports as required.
- Review all balance sheet accounts and monthly journal entries.
- Prepare activity reports and financial forecasts.
- Review monthly bank reconciliations, ore inventory, depletion, depreciation, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Track and monitor project spend, reporting variances as required.
- Participate in staff meetings and carry out routine administration and reporting.
- Assist managers with forecasting and budgeting, maintaining cross-functional relationships.
- Analyze economic, business, and financial conditions impacting organizational policies and operations.
- Identify opportunities for departmental improvement and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Controller or Gold Bar General Manager.
- Work extra hours to complete month-end closeout.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience as an accountant, with mine-site accounting and fixed asset knowledge required.
- Experience with large databases in Microsoft Excel and advanced financial software.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting practices and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and related computer systems.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate alternative solutions.
- Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and Safety, Health, and Environmental standards.
Work Environment
- Occasional travel to remote sites or corporate locations.
- Cooperative work with accounting team members.
- Long hours of sitting and/or standing.
- Repetitive tasks.
- Ability to push, pull, or lift at least 25 lbs.
- Frequent bending.
