Sr. Accountant and Analyst
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial reports, schedules, and supporting analyses to promote accurate and timely reporting outcomes.
- Cook up audit and review support by assembling documentation, organizing requested materials, and partnering with internal teams to gather required financial information.
- Evaluate account reconciliations, journal entries, and ledger activity to help ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records.
- Contribute to month-end and year-end close activities by developing supporting schedules and validating transactions tied to financial statement preparation.
- Aid in reporting submissions required by applicable Virginia state accounting guidelines and established deadlines.
- Perform financial analysis to identify discrepancies, explain variances, and support informed decision-making.
- Participate in finance-related projects, including research on updated accounting guidance and execution of process improvement initiatives.
- Review existing policies and procedures related to assigned responsibilities and recommend revisions that align with compliance expectations and operational best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior accountant or analytical accounting capacity.
- Hands-on experience with month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and ledger review.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statement support activities.
- Proficiency in account reconciliation and bank reconciliation with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to perform financial analysis and interpret accounting data effectively.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting, analysis, and schedule preparation.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
