About the role
The Velocigene team is seeking a Mouse Research/Production Facility Supervisor to join their innovative and collaborative group. This position reports directly to the MRF Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily husbandry operations, including the checking and changing of cages, meeting special requests, ensuring proper attention to animal health needs, maintaining staff adherence to SOPs.
- Schedule, train, mentor, and evaluate animal care technicians, both direct and indirect reports; maintain pertinent documents and records as required.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks and document results; address or report all deviations in a timely manner.
- Participate in regular walkthroughs, not just in the vivarium of direct responsibility, but with teams of other managers in all other vivariums on campus.
- Create weekly schedules and fulfill service requests. Ensure adequate staffing and coverage for all shifts, including weekends, and assist if needed.
- Understand and follow all policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state, local and federal agencies, including adherence to the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.”
- Work with internal Facilities Operations group to maintain facility and equipment and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and alarms.
- Coordinate equipment repairs, including coordination with vendors.
- Adhere to internal EHS guidelines and ability to readjust operations as guidelines evolve.
- Order, receive and maintain inventory of supplies such as food and bedding, or materials needed by animal care technicians in performing daily tasks. Maintain areas as “inspection ready” at all times.
- Operate under and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, biosecurity measures, proper use of PPE and institutional SOPs to ensure a safe working environment at all times.
- Participate in manager committees and projects as needed and as suited to knowledge and scope.
- Run regular team and individual 1:1 meetings, ensuring good communication of information to and from animal care technicians.
- Use a full range of administrative tools to communicate effectively, including computers, tablets, printers, work phones. Be adept at using Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Copilot. Learn and utilize internal Regeneron management programs, databases and applications.
- Lead teams well during change management by maintaining good communication, guidance, and support to adapt to new policies, roles, tasks, and reporting structures.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent technical certification is required. Associates degree or above preferred, or equivalent experience and certifications.
- Previous years of experience in an oversight role in a vivarium environment, supervising husbandry operations and staff and maintaining schedules.
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above preferred, or equivalent years of working experience.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic ability to use Outlook, email, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and internal IT applications.
- Ability to perform physical husbandry duties, equipment movement, food stocking, rack sanitization and supply stocking, either to cover staffing needs if necessary, or in a training role.
- Excellent, verbal, written, time management, organizational and communication skills.
