Spiritual Care Chaplain

Core Responsibilities

  • Provides Spiritual Care to residents as referred by care team and/or assigned by the Director of Spiritual Care.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assist residents, families and staff members in finding meaning in illness, transitions, grief and loss, suffering and death; providing for the emotional and spiritual well-being of all.
  • Accompanies residents, families and staff members as they reconcile life experiences and struggles with their values and beliefs; helping them to explore and identify inner resources and sources of coping.
  • Provides worship, funerals, memorial services, prayer and other forms of ritual in a variety of formats and honoring of diverse traditions, for residents, families, and staff members.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of theology, spirituality, pastoral counseling and ethics.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work with others in a non-judgmental, positive, compassionate and confidential manner.
  • Initiates and performs appropriate Spiritual Care interventions as assigned.
  • Attends committee and department meetings, and care conferences as assigned.
  • Collaborates and consults with Spiritual Care staff and members of the interdisciplinary team to provide optimum support for residents and families.
  • Serves as a resource for worship and educational programming of the department as needed.
  • Charts Spiritual Care interventions in a timely manner.
  • Maintains the professional standards required of Chaplains and other Spiritual Care providers.

Experience and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Chaplaincy, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 4 units of CPE accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
  • Board Certification within 2 years of hire (or Certification ready).
  • Minimum three years of experience working in circumstances similar to those required.

Education and Experience Required

Master’s degree in Chaplaincy, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Minimum of 4 units of CPE accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

Board Certification within 2 years of hire (or Certification ready).

Minimum three years of experience working in circumstances similar to those required.

Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
