This role functions by virtue of a call to ministry endorsed by a religious denomination or faith group to provide emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and employees of The MetroHealth System through listening, counseling, prayer, and conducting religious faith-based or sacramental services. The chaplain ministers to people of all faith traditions and acts as an integral part of the health care team, interacting with nursing, medical, and support staff to ensure appropriate service delivery. The role also assists with planning and implementing services that provide spiritual and charitable support to the organization and community.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and employees through listening, counseling, prayer, and faith-based or sacramental services.
• Minister to individuals of all faith traditions, including those with no religious affiliation.
• Collaborate with nursing, medical, and support staff as part of a multidisciplinary health care team.
• Assist in planning and implementing spiritual and charitable support services for the organization and community.
• Uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
• Address current medical and ethical concerns with basic knowledge and sensitivity.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree (e.g., Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Theology (MTh)) from an accredited theological seminary or university in theology or divinity, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Certified Chaplain by the Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc. (BCCI) through the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or a similar group, or obtain certification within 2 years of hire.
• Ecclesiastical endorsement (e.g., Ordination, Commissioned, or Licensed) by a faith denomination or church.
• Successfully completed 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)-approved training site.
• Experience as a Chaplain in a health care pastoral care program.
• Basic knowledge of current medical and ethical concerns.
• Ability to minister to people of all ages and faiths, including those with no religious affiliation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving, leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
• Proficiency in computer skills.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in writing, speaking, and interpreting both English and Spanish.
• Strong analytical and data management skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
• May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Must see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
• Must hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
• Finger dexterity to operate office equipment.
• May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.
• Ability to communicate via face-to-face interactions, phone, email, and other methods.
• Ability to see computer monitors and departmental documents.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, biweekly hours: 72.00.
