Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients within twenty-four (24) hours or one business day of physician referral; document any cause for delay in the medical record.
- Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services from the referring physician.
- Provide therapy services according to the physician’s treatment plan.
- Supervise Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care and related activities in accordance with state practice acts.
- Communicate with supervisors, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient progress, problems, and care plans.
- Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Reviews, and Rehabilitation Team meetings.
- Conduct in-service training programs for facility staff as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress reports, recertifications, and discharge summaries.
- Educate patients, families, and nursing staff on maintenance programs and caregiver techniques in preparation for discharge.
- Participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary care coordination.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for CFY/RFP Speech-Language Pathologists and student programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state practice acts, federal regulations, and facility policies.
- Exhibit professionalism, empathy, and effective communication with patients, residents, families, and colleagues.
- Supervise Clinical Fellows (CFY) and assist nursing in the training of Restorative Aides.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Current, active California Speech-Language Pathologist license in good standing.
- Proficient in clinical documentation systems such as Casamba and PointClickCare (PCC).
- Must meet continuing education requirements per state practice regulations.
- Strong communication, organizational, and clinical skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team.
