About The Position

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, within the College of Health at Cal State East Bay, offers Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) degrees in Speech-Language Pathology. Clinical education is provided through the Rees Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic and affiliated satellite clinics, which deliver comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services to individuals with communication disorders throughout the surrounding Bay Area communities. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Clinical Education, this position is responsible for supervising undergraduate and graduate student clinicians in both on-campus and off-campus practicum experiences.

Responsibilities

• Observing therapy sessions
• Guiding student clinicians in the design, implementation, and administration of therapy
• Evaluating clinical performance
• Reviewing students' written clinical documentation
• Providing ongoing coaching and constructive feedback
• Consulting with clients' families
• Conducting demonstration therapy sessions for student clinicians, as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of clinical speech pathology work; speech anatomy and the basic pathologies involved in diseases or injuries resulting in physical and language disorders; current literature in the speech pathology field; and applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of speech pathology and patient confidentiality.

Abilities: Ability to effectively perform patient speech pathology evaluations and therapeutic interventions and demonstrate techniques to students; initiate and develop quality standards and protocols to ensure accuracy in tests; effectively use equipment for evaluations and therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, audiometers, sonographs, language masters, delayed auditory feedback, and biofeedback equipment; communicate effectively with patients, parents, faculty, and staff and write professional-level reports and correspondence; plan, organize, and coordinate clinical operational activities; supervise students; maintain patient confidentiality as required by applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and parents; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients, parents, and students.

Education and Experience: Master's degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology or audiology from an educational institution approved by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board and equivalent to two years of clinical speech pathology work or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

License and Certifications: Possess and maintain a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a valid license from the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of clinical experience post CCC (Certificate of Clinical Competence)
• Minimum experience equivalency of 3 years intern, SLPA or CF clinical supervision and mentoring
• Experience working in teams and with diverse populations
• Experience with classroom instruction
• Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices in clinical speech-language pathology
• Experience in assessment and treatment across the lifespan
• Experience in tele-therapy
• Experience with electronic medical record systems and other clinical management software/platforms

Pay

The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $52.64 per hour to $55.86 per hour (Step 12 to Step 15).
