About the role
The Speech and Language Pathology Department at Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital is renowned for its comprehensive programs addressing adult communication disorders resulting from brain injuries, voice problems, swallowing disorders, or oral motor dysfunction. The department evaluates and treats speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in both children and adults based on physician referrals.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate referred patients and establish patient-centered goals
- Develop and execute treatment plans to promote independence in the discharged setting
- Participate in performance improvement and educational opportunities to enhance the department and profession
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY)
- Licensure in Speech Pathology-Michigan
Qualifications
- Experience in adult and pediatric neurological speech and language disorders
- Knowledge of evaluation and treatment methods including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, laryngectomy, stuttering, and voice disorders
- Experience with head and neck cancer, tracheostomies, cognition, traumatic brain injury (TBI), dementia, and modified barium swallow studies
Skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
