Title: Speech and Language Therapist
Reports to: Manager of Speech and Language
Department: School Speech and Language
Location: 5350 Machado Road, Culver City 90230 AND Early Start Arleta 14061Terra Bella Street, Arleta, CA 91331
FLSA Status: Exempt for a Board Certified Speech & Language Pathologist OR Non-Exempt Hourly for a Speech Language Assistant
Program Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Position is based on 12 months
Supervisory Responsibility: NONE

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Assess speech and language needs of students as well as provide speech therapy based on student sessions, classroom observation, Individualized Education Program (IEP), and consultation with teachers and parents.
- Coordinate educational therapy schedule with classroom teachers and aides, school counselors and other relevant staff.
- Assess student needs initially and periodically. Establish individual student goals and objectives based on: IEPs, prior assessments, educational therapy assessments, and information obtained from teachers and other relevant staff. Conduct pre and post assessments.
- Attend weekly educational therapy staff meetings. Maintain a regular work schedule. Be available to students and supervisor during regular work hours. Submit timecards and other relevant administrative paperwork on time.
- Maintain and expand expertise in educational therapy by keeping abreast with ET practices. Share knowledge with co-workers and seek others’ expertise and incorporate into work with students. Serve as an ongoing resource to teachers including: reading about current research in interventions for learning disabilities, familiarity with various remedial programs, managing difficult behaviors, enhancing motivation, and training staff.

Other Duties

- Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
- Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
- Observe regular, on-site work hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications: Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology. Current license from the Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Alternative Education: Associate’s Degree in SLPA or hold a Bachelor’s in Communication Disorders, plus complete 100 hours of clinical fieldwork
Experience: Preferred 3 years in service delivery programs for children with a wide range of disorders and ages; one year experience supervising speech therapists.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of education, health practices, procedures, and techniques used in all areas of speech and language to children with a range of disabilities and their families/caregivers.
  • Communicate, orally and in writing, in an effective and diplomatic manner with a wide range of clientele, service providers, families and other agencies;
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues and materials;
  • Work well in a team-oriented environment; and
  • Frequent use of computer required for data input and report writing (Welligent, MS Word, etc.).

Requirements

  • Driving is an essential function of this position. Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record. Motorcycles are not permitted while driving for ECF, may only be used when commuting to and from your home to main worksite.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and very three years thereafter
  • Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Maintain license from the Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and others in person and over the phone.
  • Mobility to work in a standard classroom setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Requires the use of hands to produce records and/or documentation in manual or electronic format.
  • Vision to read printed materials and computer screen.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to reach high and low.
  • Occasional lifting/moving/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing up to10 lbs.
  • Ability to implement NCI, First Aid, and CPR.

Pay Range

$75,000.00 Annually to $130,000.00 Annually
