Qualifications/Education
- Master's Degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject assigned
- Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician Certificate
- Two years teaching experience in Special Education
- Two years of experience in an administrative or leadership role within a school setting preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop and implement an effective special education referral process and ensure that student assessments and recommendations regarding placement and program management for individual students are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a systematic basis, and that the findings are used to make special education programs more effective.
- Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support subordinates in accomplishing educational goals.
- Manage the special education referral process; arrange for or conduct student assessments; make recommendations regarding placement and program management for individual students.
- Serve as resource person in the design and equipping of facilities for students with disabilities.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
- Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related job assignment.
Assessment
- Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process within state timelines.
- Administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.
- Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student's cumulative folder, classroom teachers(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource people.
- Cook up classroom observation and personal interviews.
- Cook up and participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
Consultation
- Present staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in identification and understanding of students with disabilities, dyslexia, specific conditions, or impairments.
- Aid classroom teachers with implementation of IEP.
- Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
- Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
