About the role
This is a highly specialized operational performance role responsible for monitoring and optimizing WiFi performance across a large-scale production environment. The position involves providing wireless technology leadership for the development of wireless technologies, engineering design, and deployment support. This hands-on role requires an engineer who can independently troubleshoot complex production issues, isolate root cause through data analysis, and provide well-supported recommendations to improve network performance and customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide technology leadership for the development of complex end-to-end technology solutions involving devices/CPEs, access, transport, core, and backend systems.
- Investigate network issues, analyze large data sets, and support executive-level customer escalations.
- Assess new product requirements and develop technology solutions and architecture designs to support them.
- Test and certify new Small Cells, Home/SMB Routers, Wireless APs, Wireless Access Gateways (WAGs), and Controllers.
- Work with Operations to resolve WiFi and mobile access network issues that could impact the business or the customer.
- Provide guidelines and technical leadership for the development of tools and processes for new product development, testing, and validation.
- Validate the capabilities of technologies through lab evaluation and field trials.
- Drive new innovative technologies and approaches (e.g., 802.11ad/ay, UWB, BNC, Mesh Network) to increase performance, reliability, and Quality of Experience (QoE).
- Support initiatives to improve network security, virus detection, and virtualization of network functions.
- Review designs, code, and unit test plans where applicable.
- Participate in and contribute to RFPs/RFIs, hardware and software evaluations, and vendor contract negotiations.
Requirements
- Advanced expertise in WiFi and wireless networking, including a deep knowledge of WiFi standards and protocols (WiFi 4/5/6/7) and 4G-LTE.
- Strong understanding of Access Points, AAA, WAGs, authentication, and wireless network architecture.
- Demonstrated ability to independently investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network problems in large-scale production environments.
- Experience working with large data sets, using SQL queries, and utilizing data analysis tools to extract actionable insights.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and analytics platforms such as Grafana, Splunk, or similar tools.
- Experience with CPE Wireless Gateway and Router designs.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Wireless Technology Development & Management.
- BSEE in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA is preferred.
- Familiarity with 5G technology.
- Prior MSO, telecom, wireless carrier, or relevant vendor experience.
