Specialist Teacher, Pope St. John XXIII STEM, Tacoma

Compensation: $20.00 per hour. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.

Schedule

• 24-40 hours per week
• 7:45 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday
• Regular hours: August 26, 2026 to June 11, 2027
• Unpaid breaks around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor Degree preferred but not required
• Teacher Certification preferred, but not required; individuals pursuing a Master's in Education/Teaching or Teacher Certification classes are welcome to apply
• Alignment of professional duties with the belief that every student can learn the skills and dispositions necessary to attend college
• Ability to inspire a spirit of welcome and service
• Professional communication skills, both verbal and written
• Comfortable using the internet and digital tools
• Enjoy learning new things

• Mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children

• Ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 50 lbs
• Bilingual preferred (Spanish or Vietnamese)

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with school staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating the school's goals and objectives, with a focus on faith formation and ensuring learning for all students
• Participate in regional and Archdiocesan Catholic school initiatives
• Maintain and complete attendance for each class
• Establish and maintain a learning environment guided by Gospel values, high expectations, and a belief that all students can learn
• Implement responsive instructional strategies, including formative assessment, culturally responsive pedagogy, and adjusting lesson plans to meet student needs
• Align classroom curriculum and instruction with school-wide systems, initiatives, and goals
• Ensure confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Respond to parent communication requests within 48 hours
• Use research-based instructional strategies to ensure learning for all students
• Demonstrate willingness to learn new technology to enhance student learning and communication
• Participate in professional development opportunities that support individual and school-wide goals
• Be punctual, maintain consistent attendance, and start/end classes on time
• Display professional behavior at all times
• Participate in the school's Professional Learning Community (PLC) and attend professional development days
• Submit weekly lesson plans to the Principal
• Maintain a routine process for monitoring student progress and communicate that progress to parents/guardians
• Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Family Handbook, Faculty Handbook, and Staff Handbook
• Serve the school in the position and duties assigned by the Principal, adhering to policies, rules, and regulations set by the school, Washington State Department of Education, Archdiocese of Seattle, Canon Law, and the local School Commission
