About the role
The Specialist, Engineering Services plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation of complex water systems and utility infrastructure in a GMP-compliant environment. You'll be responsible for the daily monitoring, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of water purification systems, boilers, air compressors, and associated utility equipment. This hands-on position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections and monitor water systems including reverse osmosis units, electro-deionization systems, vapor compression stills, clean steam generators, and water softeners to ensure proper operation and GMP compliance.
- Respond to mechanical and electrical issues by troubleshooting equipment problems, performing repairs, and documenting all work through electronic work order systems and communication channels.
- Execute preventative maintenance and inspection protocols on utility systems including boilers, air compressors, air dryers, steam delivery systems, and their automation controls according to written procedures.
- Maintain organized work areas through general labor services, cleaning, and equipment organization within all Utility Maintenance department zones.
- Monitor and operate utility equipment using PLCs, HMI interfaces, and automated control systems while completing required equipment operational checks.
- Collaborate effectively with Maintenance and Engineering team members as well as internal and external customers, working both independently and as part of a team environment.
- Maintain all GMP training qualifications and site compliance requirements, including working with hazardous materials, wearing appropriate PPE, and following SOPs and JHAs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of general maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of water treatment systems including reverse osmosis, EDI, clean steam generation, water softening, and heat exchanging systems with proven ability to perform maintenance in a GMP environment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics with hands-on experience using hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Previous experience working in GMP-compliant environments with current or ability to obtain GMP training certifications.
- Experience with automated control systems, PLCs, and HMI interfaces for equipment monitoring and operational adjustments.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces (crawling, kneeling, stooping) as required by job functions.
- Flexibility to work a 2-2-3 rotating schedule with 6PM-6AM shifts, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and participation in on-call rotation as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years of specialized experience in industrial water treatment and purification systems.
- Working knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for work order tracking and documentation.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience and PLC programming or modification capabilities.
- Plumbing experience with industrial and process piping systems.
- Current Boiler Operator Certificate demonstrating competency in boiler operation and safety.
- Wastewater Treatment Certificate or equivalent training in wastewater systems management.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with proficiency in PC applications and interoffice communication tools.
Schedule
2-2-3 rotating schedule, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (includes weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation)
