Special Projects Fellow

About the role

The Office of Youth Engagement and Advancement (OYEA) works to uplift young voices in decision-making processes and helps advance the lives of young people across Boston through programming and resource connecting. OYEA’s mission is to support three levels of youth work: (1) spaces and programs for young people, (2) the adults and professionals in those spaces, and (3) young people themselves. The Special Projects Fellow will support programs and initiatives that work across all three levels, coordinating seasonal and rotating projects within OYEA and in collaboration with other city and community partners. This role requires a self-starter with an interest in public service, youth work, civics education, attention to detail, and superior organizational skills, and will involve meaningful engagement with diverse communities across the City of Boston. The position reports to the Deputy Director.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a variety of rotating and seasonal projects within OYEA through implementation, including timelines, deliverables, and follow-up.
• Maintain organized project files, documentation, and shared resources.
• Actively communicate and build relationships with city agencies, community organizations, schools, and external stakeholders to support youth initiatives.
• Support meaningful youth engagement efforts, including direct outreach, focus groups, listening sessions, and representation at city-wide events.
• Assist with purchasing, space reservations, outreach campaigns, and other logistical tasks as required.
• Track project budgets, invoices, and procurement needs in coordination with OYEA staff.
• Assist with connecting Language Other Than English (LOTE) speakers with available translation and language services as needed.
• Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and accountability when working with youth, community partners, and City stakeholders.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Perform related work as required.

Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years of full, or equivalent part-time, experience.
• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of required experience.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Ability to serve as a role model for youth and to positively engage with diverse communities.
• Interest in public service, civic engagement, youth services & programs.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Flexible schedule as some nights and weekends may be required.
• Travel offsite is required.
• Knowledge of the City of Boston and its neighborhoods is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
• Driver’s license preferred.

Pay

$25 per hour
